Chanel's Byzantine empire

Rich velvet, silk, embroidery and beaded mosaics like the tiled floors of a Byzantine palace... The Chanel empire under Karl Lagerfeld continues to draw on historical references. But while the clothing, and the accessories, of Chanel pre-Fall 2011 are ornate and beautiful (albeit not always in the most flattering of cuts), we suspect it's the hair - the wound-around birdsnest topknot, complete with embellished headband - is going to be the most popular aspect to catch on with the younger social set.
